The Motivation: If not now, then when? Life is too short to stay inactive.
The Challenge: If you are not willing to suffer, then you shouldn't be racing
The Dream: Staying fit and feeling younger day by day!

2013 Triathlon Race Calendar - Greece

Triathlon Races in Greece have exploded in number the last year or so.
Normally, competitors had to pick up races between from a number of 4-5 triathlon yearly races. Now, the sport has received so much attention that many organisers have taken the initiative to setup tri-races in various locations all around Greece (on main-land and islands) and throughout the year (i.e. dualthons).

The races below do not require any subscription with the Greek (or any other) triathlon federation or triathlon team, etc.
From my experience, most organisers are requiring you to bring a medical certificate from cardiologist (issued the last 6 months or earlier) to provide a proof of your ability to race safely and have a declaration form signed up prior to race (each organiser uploads such form/s on his/her website for the race under consideration). I am stating this as a general guidance, for those who might be coming from abroad to Greece to join a race.
Please, contact the organiser to check the essential documents needed every time you want to take part in any race. Everyone speaks English in this country, even if they have never learned it before!

(dates below correct at time of writing: 1 May 2013. Check the link at the end of this page for updates, but I will try to make sure I keep the list below updated too!)

Tri-regards!

2012 Greek Indoor Rowing Championship - My road to sub 3 minutes race time

If there was just one word I would be allowed to pick up to describe the 2012 Greek indoor rowing national event that would be *exhaustion*. And this description doesn't only apply for the race day, but for the whole training season leading to this event. Below, I expose the training stages that allowed me to break the 3 minutes race time. Hope my story below will motivate all those athletes, new to indoor rowing, expand their ambitions.

Preparation
Indoor rowing requires maximum effort to reach a top level performance. The effort required to achieve even the tiniest improvement is significant. When you watch rowing live on the TV you might have noticed that the whole race lasts only a couple of minutes (less than 7 min for a 2000m race and 3 min for a 1000m race). Believe me, for those athletes who target a medal position, racing those few minutes feels endless until the moment they cross the finish line. Both in physical and mental terms.

2nd place 2011 Greek Indoor Rowing Championship (www.aasport.gr) - The 30 hours drama: from dropping out to silver medal and a new PB

The 2011 race season is over, both for triathlon and indoor rowing. Time for a good long rest and time for collecting the pros and reassessing the cons, from this year's races and optimising training performance for 2012. At last, another medal came into my belt this year with a 2nd place in the Greek IRC! What a reward, considering the pre-race drama I faced about a day before the event. I will explain this briefly below...

For any sport's event you normally train and prepare according to a plan, which includes various stages depending on your available time and your race priorities. This plan is concluded with the building - the competition and the peaking phase. You then cross your fingers that the plan will go fine, stay injury free and ...ill free.

Yep, you guessed it right,

First at 2010 (18th Dec.) Greek Indoor Rowing Championship - www.aasport.gr

The end of the season has eventually reached and now I can have a good rest after about 7 months of systematic training at various sports (windsurfing, triathlon, running, indoor rowing).

And nothing feels better than to end the 2010 with a first place at the Greek Indoor Rowing Championship, which this is what happened on the 18th of Dec!!! Best Xmas gift !!!

Distance: 1000 m (standard length for the Greek IRC)
Official finish time: 3.02.8 ( 0.4 secs off my last year's 2009 Greek national record and 2.4 seconds in front of the 2nd place!!! - tough competition this year)
1 st place at 30-39 division (between 15 full time rowers and technically experienced athletes from distinguished national rowing clubs)

Not a national record this time (I am NR holder since 2010), but considering the load of the racing schedule for this year (about one important race every 4-5 weeks since May) I am quite happy to conclude the 2010 this way.

I will rest for about 10 days and prepare the training season for the 2011 Greek Triathlon Race events: http://www.schiniathlon.gr/news-20101122.html

Photos from the Greek IRC will be posted shortly, in the meantime please check: www.aasport.gr and http://www.facebook.com/pages/C2-Indoor-Rowing/118432964891200 (my apologies for the delay but it's time for some celebration too!)

Cheers ;)

p.s: Indoor rowing best 2000 m: 6.38.7 ||| best 1000 m: 3.02.4
